peaches & cream

i love peach and coral hues, so i was pretty excited when we were asked to jump on a shoot about a peach and cream palette for martha stewart. it featured emily lael's cakes, which are hands down the most unique and creative creations we ever set our eyes on. jen huang photography snapped the pics in a perfectly soft and feminine light. check out more photos in martha stewart weddings.

Mondays with Matt

Hope everyone weathered out Irene with some good food, drinks, and games! Poppies and Posies had spent the week prior with a lovely vacation in Maine to celebrate Juliet's Birthday. Friend's and family came to eat oysters from Juliet's oyster farm, Cabin Cove.

We ate them straight out of the Shuck Truck, Juliet's awesome refitted Airstream... which was conveniently set up next to a wine tasting.
We spent a lot of time in the sun.

... and on the water.

All in all it was a wonderful, restful, fun-filled trip. Lot's of thanks to Tala for documenting our holiday with such gorgeous photos!

X Matt

I've been obsessed with the prints designed by Florence Broadhurst since I first saw them a few years ago. Not only are her prints super groovy, but her life death are equally fascinating.

I love how alive quirky the patterns are, such fun colour stories and most prints have a metallic option! Wouldn't the Roman Soldiers look great in a powder room or as an accent wall in a little boys room?

My favorite has got to be Horses Stampede.

I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about this print. Anything would look beautiful covered in this! I would love a bedroom papered in the horses, the windows draped in the horses, the headboard upholstered in the horses. The fabric would also be really creative choice for bridesmaid dresses!

Florence Broadhurst designs are distributed through Signature Prints.

p&p at the plaza

juliet put it best after this weekend when she said, "i feel like i ran a marathon in heels".
worst part is i think we actually could have run a marathon wearing our highest heels faster than our 19 hour wedding day this saturday.
at least it was extra special, because we spent most of the time at the plaza for an affair that won't be soon forgotten. although the tall centerpieces were not our typical low, lush style, we found ways to give it a p&p touch. we used giant garden roses, dahlias, poppy pods, unripened blackberries and juliet garden roses.
shel was a trooper and couldn't help striking a pose in front of her master piece. yay for the p&p team for pulling off an amazing weekend!

Monday with Matt: engagement rings?

When I'm quite bored, or only a little, I'll wikipedia something on my magic phone for a quick read. "Engagement rings" was one of the more interesting topics. Customs vary so greatly from culture to culture and country to country, that I don't see why gay couples should feel that they have to follow any specific rules, or even have to stick to rings.
If I ever have the luck of being affianced, I doubt I would want a traditional diamond solitaire that the ladies get. Many same sex couples exchange simple bands in gold or platinum when they become engaged, and let the rings do double duty as wedding bands as well.
I'm not really a jewelry person, but I would like to receive something special in addition to a wedding band. The key pendants from Tiffany fit the bill for me, they run the gamut from sturdily masculine to undoubtedly feminine. I'm rather partial to simple styles done in yellow gold or black bone china.

I like that they aren't traditional, but have a romantic quality with "key to my heart" imagery. If you or your partner would like something sturdier, a watch would be a great option. I love vintage Omega Seamaster watches, especially this one from 1982.

Have a great week!
X-Matt

on the vine

this past weekend we did a very sweet, garden wedding at blue hill stonebarns, but before this lovely affair we designed the flowers for their rehearsal dinner. juliet and i were both totally smitten with the ingredients. fresh, heirloom cherry tomatoes, garden roses, scabiosa florets, white cosmos, mountain mint and japanese gomphrena.

Monday with Matt: geometric prints

I recently visited my grandma and came home with a bunch of treasures. My favorite among them, by leaps and bounds, is an oilcloth tote bag made from this fabric...

She had been using the bag to hold paper recycling and it was in perfect condition. I did a little research, and the print is called Bauhaus and was designed by sisters, Susan Collier and Sarah Cambell, for Liberty of London in 1972. I love the exuberance of the pattern, for a geometric print it has such an organic feel. I've done some research, and there are odd scarves, ties and pillows to be found on ebay. What I wouldn't give to have enough of this oilcloth to cover my kitchen table.
The print reminds me of this curtain for a theatre...

... which I saw a year or two ago at the Guggenheim in New York. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for his home in Wisconsin, the curtain depicts a pared down landscape view. Out of all the beautiful models, photos and blueprints, this curtain is the one thing that stuck in my memory after the exhibit.
Hope everybody had a lovely weekend has a great week.
