tofu will prevail!

Tofu vs. Bacon
(round 2)
Tofu may not be stronger than bacon in an arm wrestling match, but I think it's smarter! Judge for yourself. Try making this delicious middle eastern styled dish and see how you feel...

create a seasoning....
1/2 cup paprika
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons mustard powder
1/4 cup ground cumin
2 tablespoons ground black pepper
1/4 cup granulate garlic
2 tablespoons cayenne

combine:
1 package chickpea crusted tofu
1 can chickpeas
oven roasted tomatoes
1/2 pack of spinach
and
season with your mix (you'll have extra for next time)

cook a cup of sushi rice and we used delicious vegetable roti from Kalustyans (a fantastic market on 28th and Lexington where you could find all of the ingredients to this meal, grab a hot lunch, and a delightful dessert all at the same time)
to finish....
spread the rice on top of the bread and scoop the tofu dish over the rice.
mmmmmm yummy!

what to do in BK when it snows..

I have to say being snowed in with a chef is really the best possible scenario when there is over a foot of snow on the ground and its still pouring from the sky. Most of the morning was spent writing proposals for upcoming weddings while Michael of Stuart & Welch whipped up some delicious dishes for his event tomorrow. Periodically he'd pop in to feed me a homemade cookie or refill my coffee mug. Layla, his gorgeous boxer, roamed around all morning hoping we'd drop a crumb or two.
When it was time for a break, we did what most couples do...arts and crafts (duh). The goal was to take tin cans and glass mason jars that he's been collecting from cooking and turn them into something pretty and re-usable. We had everything on hand already which made it easier, but all of these items are very easy to obtain. Try it yourself!

Materials: Glue, moss, raffia, tin cans, and/or mason jars.
It's very simple. Cover the container with glue and attache the moss. For the raffia just tie around the top. Drop a simple tea light or votive inside and voila!

Have fun and stay warm if you're in NYC!

say cheese at madison square park!

One of our all time favorite industry friends, Christopher Duggan from Threshold Visions, sat down with some other photographers recently and came up with this fantastic idea....basically they were thinking about how couples don't take enough pictures of themselves. Especially when you've been married for awhile these things seem to slip away, so they decided to give away free photo sessions to couples on February 13th to kick of Valentine's Day. How sweet!

Their Story...

While meeting over breakfast one morning, each of us realized that most couples do not have updated professional photographs of themselves. This is especially true for couples who have been married for several years. This Valentines Day, we want to give back to the awesome couples of New York City and offer a complimentary photography session to you.

How to Participate?

Any and ALL couples are welcome. Whether you be Newly engaged, newly wed, dating, married with children or married with grand-children….please come out and spread the love!

The Meet Up?

• On February 13th, we will meet at Madison Square Park from 3:00pm-5:00pm
• The meeting point is famous 5th avenue clock (5th Avenue and Broadway) located between 23rd and 24th Streets
• After a brief introduction we will begin working on-location with with you

Next Steps…

• Each photographer (3 total) will have 5 minutes to work with you to conceptualize and document a unique image/moment
• On February 14th by 2pm, a single image from each couple will be posted independently on the wedding photography websites of: Parris Whittingham Photography, R Wagner Photography, and Threshold Visions.

The Contest

• Anyone can vote on their favorite image on each of the 3 sites
• Voting closes Tuesday February 16th at 9:00pm
• The selected images/couple with the most votes across all 3 sites will be declared the contest winner

The Grand Prize

The winning couple with the most total votes (from all 3 sites) will receive:
• A complimentary engagement session with the photographer of their choosing (over $400-$1000 value)
• $200 print credit
• $100 gift certificate to Mario Batali’s OTTO Restaurant

NOTE: All couples who participate (by working with each photographer) will receive a high-resolution files from their photography session. Couples must consent to signing a model release to have their likeness publicly displayed. Portraits will be taken on a first come first service basis. We suggest arriving slightly before 3:00pm. Friends, employees and relatives of the photographers are allowed to participate, however, they are not eligible to win the grand prize.

romance on the road

I've been thinking about spring time a lot, which led me to thinking about bicycles and how much I want one. For the past three years I've threatened to take the plunge and buy a cute little bike that could take me to the grocery and across town to friend's houses. I could attach a darling little basket to the front for my groceries. It would all be very romantic. When I started searching for such a mode of transportation I came across the most darling vintage photos & bikes that I want to call my own oh so badly!

blonds have more fun!

I am a brunette through and through. In junior high I let my friend dye my hair "blond" which was a total disaster. My family will never let me down for having orange hair in our family photo that year. Sometimes it does seem like blonds have more fun and I guess I just wanted to find out if all the hype was true. Today, my very blond and very fun friend passed this designer along to me and well I have to say these blonds look fun!

I'm gonna leave the fun up to Juliet and these blond bombshells.
I gotta stick with my brunette babes, but would LOVE to be rockin one of these outfits at the same time!

petitepaperie

This past christmas I was in search for presents that would fancy my brother's significant others. These ladies are hip, so I knew I needed to come up with something good. Plus, living in a city like New York there is a big pressure to always give good gifts. I think it is a self imposed pressure from all of the amazing shops and gifts that are found down any given city street, but none the less I feel it. In the end, I think we all wound up exchanging paper goods with each other because let's be honest, what lady doesn't LOVE paper goods? Petite Paperie stole my heart with her vintage botanical prints/digital collages, but if you're looking for a perfect card for your main squeeze this valentine's day you may not have to look any further.

Old, new, borrowed, and blue...

We were so inspired by the beautiful blues of our last post that we couldn't help but look further! So kill two birds with one stone and fufill your new and blue requirements with these darling earrings from Larquebyjason's etsy shop. They're so sweet with yummy pearls in the center. One day they'll be your daughter's borrowed item!

Just because it's old doesn't mean it's not absolutely gorgeous. We love the 'once worn' dresses from Oncewed... especially this beauty from Pronovias. I think it's very Jackie.

And last but not least... if you're going to borrow something it ought to be something worth borrowing. Make your honeymoon getaway in this amazing and very stylish 1957 porsche speedster. You can borrow it from the Classic Car Club here in Manhattan.
